“Grand-Slam” international Judo competition named after Heydar Aliyev was held on 10-12 March. 183 athletes (110 men and 73 women athletes) from 31 countries participated in the competition. The second day of the competition was a success for Azerbaijan's national team, winning 1 gold and 2 bronze medals. Rufat Ismayilov, an Athlete in the Azerbaijan national team who was competing in 81 kg weight group, became a gold medalist of the Grand-Slam. During competition, he had defeated his opponents from Uzbekistan, Moldova, Bulgaria and Japan. In the final match Rufat Ismayilov met with Iranian athlete Said Mollaei and eventually became the winner.
After the medal ceremony, the President of Judo Federation Rovnag Abdullayev also congratulated judoka with his victory. Rustam Orujov, competing in 73 kg weight group, Khanim Huseynova competing in 63 kg weight group and Orkhan Safarov competing in 60 kg weight group became bronze medallists of Grand-Slam.
Mammadali Mehdiyev, competing in 90 kg weight group, became silver medalist, losing only in the final match. Abdulhaqq Rasullu and Tural Safguluyev also competing in the same weight group took 5th place in the standings.
Winners of the first, second and third places of Grand-Slam competition won 100, 700, 500 total scores respectively, while fifth and seventh places got 360 and 260 total scores.
