The Journey from the Caspian which take place in the led up to Baku 2017 IV Islamic Solidarity Games arrived to its next destinatoin - Shirvan town.
To mark this day, the first event was held yesterday morning around the railway bridge over the Kura River in Shirvan. The Kura River running through 906 km area of Azerbaijan is the longest river in the country. The first wooden bridge over it was constructed namely in Shirvan in 1917. Nowadays you can enjoy the view of this bridge, too.
The Water Ceremony witnessed chess enthusiast Sema Aliyeva, the 3rd place winner of Azerbaijan Taekwondo Championship Arif Shukurov and Freestyle Wrestling Coach Emeritus of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ismayil Hashimov collecting water from the Kura River in special vessels which were presented in the evening festival afterwards.
The day also featured a Regional Sport Event held in the Shirvan town Olympic Sport Complex within the framework of “Domestic Grassroots” Program of Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games. The Celebrity Ambassadors of the Games Rafael Iskenderov, Joshgun Rahimov and Mushfig Abbasov also participated in the contest organised among schoolchildren to promote Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games and encourage youth to get into sports.
The ceremony continued with the Water Festival held in Heydar Aliyev Park in the evening hours.The organised concert and fireworks show were a part of the program of “Journey from the Caspian”.
“Journey from the Caspian” encompassing the entire Azerbaijan will reach its next destination on April 13 in Sabirabad region. Starting from the Caspian Sea, this 37-day journey will cover over 3000 km area across 15 regions.
