Syria have won their first gold medal of the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games after boxer Hussin Almasri saw off Iraq's Hasan Naser in the light-flyweight (46-49kg) final on Thursday.

Almasri landed a clean right hook in the first round to send Naser sprawling to the mat.

Though it was a cagey and at times scrappy combat, the Syrian was always in control and secured gold by a unanimous points decision.

There are nine more boxing finals to come at Baku's Crystal Hall on Thursday evening, with hosts Azerbaijan gunning for gold in six different weight categories.
